Courts of the Future Forum

The DIFC Courts and the Dubai Future Foundation announced the creation of the Courts of the Future Forum earlier this year. The Forum was set up to help lawmakers and legal systems accommodate the accelerating growth of technology by developing new mechanisms for dispute resolution. It’s task was to advise the Courts on:

  • current performance and reputation of the Courts in relation to handling of the disputes of the future;
  • strategic direction required for the Courts to maintain and improve their knowledge, performance and reputation regarding future IP, construction, technology and other related disputes; and
  • developments and trends in the arena of international dispute resolution which may have an impact on the DIFC Courts and its operation.

On 12 November 2017, Charlie Thompson (along with Tom Montagu Smith QC of XXIV Old Buildings) unveiled the draft “Rules of the Future” in a presentation to the World Economic Forum in Dubai. A working document will be created to begin the process of shaping the future direction of commercial courts.
