Date: 09.01.2017

Keating Chambers is delighted to welcome Johan Beyers and Dawid Welgemoed from 56 Keerom Street Chambers in Cape Town as International Members of Keating.

Johan Beyers has practised as an advocate at the Cape Town Bar since 1992, specialising in construction, engineering and commercial disputes. Recent work includes advising and representing clients on claims arising from a major marine breakwater project and on a supply contract for construction of a gas turbine power station in South Africa, an infrastructure project in Lesotho, the design of a large suspension bridge in Scotland and advisory work for an international contractor in respect of a construction security bond in respect of a project in the Middle East.  Johan is the current chair of the Society of Construction Law for Africa.

Dawid was called to the Cape Town Bar in 2000 and was a pupil at Keating Chambers in 2004 before establishing his construction and commercial law practice in South Africa. He has recently advised and represented clients in matters involving a floating harbour in the South Sea, a ship’s hull design, mining, the first gas pipeline transporting shalegas from fields in South Africa, and the Cape Town stadium. He has also represented the family of a Nobel Peace Prize winner, in a matter of substantial commercial value.

Marcus Taverner QC, head of Keating Chambers, said ‘Johan and Dawid join our existing International Members, Ian Pennicott QC, Robert Fenwick Elliott and Chin Leng Lim and are a very welcome addition.’

Declan Redmond, Chief Executive and Director of Clerking at Keating said ‘To have advocates of the quality of Johan and Dawid joining Keating is a huge achievement. They have international practices that are an excellent fit with Keating’s practice areas and their focus in Africa will provide a boost to Keating’s existing work in that region.”
