Samuel Townend QC Appointed Co-Chair of the Legal Services Committee of the Bar Council

Date: 8 December 2021

We are delighted to announce that yesterday evening (7 December 2021) the Bar Council appointed Samuel Townend QC as Co-Chair of their Legal Services Committee for 2022.

The Legal Services Committee leads on some of the most high-profile, far-reaching and occasionally controversial policy issues addressing barristers’ work and the operation of the courts, including the response to the COVID pandemic, remote hearings, the court backlogs, the correct handling of vulnerable parties, scheduling and listing, insurance, and other legal practice matters.  Samuel will lead the Committee’s work in these areas, sit on the executive committee (the GMC) of the Bar Council, and represent the Bar’s interests in these areas in relation to Government/parliament, media, and others.

Samuel said “This is a really exciting opportunity in what has been a difficult time for the courts and the Bar. The challenges the justice system face, including chronic under-funding, are something that I hope I can play a small part towards tackling.
