SILK APPOINTMENT: SAMUEL TOWNEND

We are delighted to announce that Samuel Townend has been successful in his application for silk.

Samuel is a specialist in construction, energy and professional negligence disputes, and has particular expertise in offshore construction and marine engineering including dredging, together with infrastructure and utilities. He was called to the UK Bar in 1999 and to the Northern Ireland Bar in 2014. Samuel has been Standing Counsel for the National House Building Council (NHBC) for over a decade, and he recently successfully appeared for them in the Court of Appeal in Herons Court v NHBC Building Control Services Ltd, in which he successfully resisted an attempt to extend s.1 of the Defective Premises Act 1972 to approved inspectors. He is described as “a first-class advocate with the tenacity of a pitbull and manners of an English gentleman”.

In addition to his court work, Samuel has a thriving practice in international and domestic arbitration, most recently concerning projects in Australia, Pakistan, Saudia Arabia and Singapore. He is also an Accredited Mediator, Adjudicator and Dispute Resolution Board panellist.

His appointment will take effect following a ceremony in the New Year.
