Three New Tenants

Date: 24 July 2020

We are pleased to announce that all three of our current pupils have accepted offers of tenancy. John Steel, Thomas Saunders and Ben Graff will join Chambers in September following the successful completion of their pupillages.

John has an MA in History from Edinburgh University and obtained a distinction in his MA in International Peace & Security from Kings College London. He was awarded the Michael Hodge Scholarship by Inner Temple for his BPTC. John has gained experience in the main areas of Chamber’s expertise, with a particular focus on construction law, as well as procurement and claims involving energy and infrastructure projects. John’s essay, ‘A Ticket to the South of France or Rough Justice?  Construing Ambiguity in Manchikalapati v Zurich Insurance’, won second prize in the 2019 Society of Construction Law Hudson Prize essay competition. John has a keen interest in running and cross country skiing and earlier this year he completed the Vasaloppet ultra-ski-marathon in Sweden.

Thomas read Philosophy at St John’s College, Cambridge and he received the Nicholas Pumfrey Memorial Scholarship from Middle Temple for his BPTC. Thomas has undertaken a wide range of work during pupillage across Chambers’ specialisms from large international arbitrations to adjudication enforcement. He also spent a week as the first virtual / digital marshal in the TCC with Jefford J.  Thomas is a keen rugby player and looks forward to being able to play again as lockdown eases.

Ben has a BA in Philosophy and Politics from the University of Manchester and an MPhil in philosophy from Cambridge University. Whilst at Manchester, Ben received the Michael Polanyi Logic Prize for top marks in Formal Logic and the Michael Polanyi Memorial Prize for exceptional results in final year. At Cambridge he was awarded the Timothy Joyce Masters Studentship, and was also recruited to help teach Formal Logic to undergraduate students. Ben received a GDL Scholarship from City and the Denning Scholarship for the BPTC from Lincoln’s Inn. Ben has undertaken work across Chambers’ specialisms including defects claims, delay claims, procurement, arbitration and adjudication. Outside of work, he is a long suffering Arsenal fan.
