Pleading Ignorance – recent skirmishes in Statements of Case

An update on significant case law developments on the importance of pleadings, and examples of best practice including how to successfully use data sampling and extrapolation in large claims.
The talk by guest speaker Callum Monro Morrison comprises an analysis of the fundamental purposes and components of statements of case in civil litigation, before examining some nuances of statements of case in technology and construction litigation through the lens of three recent examples: (i) Standard Life Assurance Ltd v Gleeds (UK) and Others [2020] EWHC 3419 (TCC); [2021] EWCA Civ 1793; (ii) Martlet Homes Ltd v Mulalley & Co Ltd [2021] EWHC 296 (TCC); [2022] EWCA Civ 32; and (iii) USAF Nominee No 18 Ltd v Watkin Jones and Son Ltd [2021] EWHC 3173 (TCC).
