This recognition follows Charles’ significant contributions to planning law, marked by several high-profile cases including CG Fry in the Supreme Court on nutrient neutrality and Hillside in the Supreme Court on overlapping planning permissions. Charles also led the Independent Review of Legal Challenges to Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects, with his recommendations now incorporated into the Planning and Infrastructure Bill. Alongside his work, he continually contributes towards thought leadership in the sector, notably hosting the popular Have We Got Planning News For You podcast.
In addition to securing the top spot in the planning silks list, Charles is the only silk to rank in the top five across all three specialist tables of residential, commercial and infrastructure. He is the first barrister in the survey’s history to top all three of the Under 35, Junior and Silks tables over the course of his career.
