Our three pupils, Hugo Bell, Harriet Di Francesco and Callum Monro Morrison, were delighted to win the award for ‘Best Team’ at the 2019 Worshipful Company of Arbitrators’ annual arbitration competition (as voted for by the participants).
In addition, Harriet won 'Best Individual Advocate' (as voted for by both the arbitrators and the participants). The competition took place as a mock arbitration hearing over as weekend, with participants from barristers' chambers, solicitors' firms and law schools. Competitors acted as advocates for the parties and gained invaluable experience cross-examining expert witnesses.
The tribunal was chaired by Sir Peter Cresswell, whose judgment in the 'Ikarian Reefer' case on the principles of expert evidence was referred to on multiple occasions during the competition. Our pupils thoroughly enjoyed and valued the experience.
