Marcus Taverner QC – Full Time Arbitrator and Adjudicator

Date: 19 October 2021

After over 40 years of practice, Marcus Taverner QC has announced that he will now only be accepting appointments as arbitrator or adjudicator.

Marcus has been building his arbitrator/adjudicator experience for 20 years, with these appointments increasing significantly during the last seven years. His recent appointments, many as Chairman/President, comprise multi-million dollar construction and energy disputes in the UK and around the world, including Australia; South Africa; the Middle East, Nigeria, the USA and Hong Kong. He has sat on ICC, LCIA, SIAC and other Arbitral Panels as well as on Dispute Adjudication Boards in the UK and internationally. The directories describe him as “one of the leading new generation construction arbitrators”, and a “a first-rate arbitrator” who “is very bright and shows extreme attention to detail”.

In his career as counsel Marcus was awarded “Construction Silk of the Year” twice by Chambers & Partners (2009 and 2015) and was recommended in the leading directories for construction, energy, professional negligence and international arbitration. He was particularly well known for his understanding of the commercial aspects of litigation and his mastering of the technical detail of complex and high value cases. Marcus acted on behalf of UK governmental bodies, foreign governments and many of the UK’s largest construction and engineering companies, developers, construction professionals and their insurers, and he was recently engaged in work relating to the Grenfell Inquiry. He was also Head of Keating Chambers between 2015 and 2020.

Declan Redmond (Director of Clerking): “Marcus has had a fantastic career to date as a star advocate of the construction Bar. He is well respected in both the domestic market and internationally, and this reputation has led to a burgeoning practice as an arbitrator.”

As a full-time arbitrator Marcus’ practice will now be managed by our ADR Clerk Oliver Goldsmith and our Administration & ADR Assistant Oscar Lee.
